You want to have a classroom pet. You know how good they are for kids. But they are expensive. Pets in the Classroom grants to the rescue! If you are a preK-8 teacher, you can apply for a grant to purchase a classroom pet and supplies, and reapply annually to keep your pet’s food bowl stocked. This is one of my favorite grants, because many students (especially in cities) don’t have pets at home, and classroom pets can be great points of attachment for them.
Could I recommend a pet rat? They make excellent classroom pets. Plus, saying that gives me an excuse to post a picture of one our family’s rats, Raspberry. Isn’t he cute? (The girl munchkin added the quote to this photo.)
